Frequently asked questions...
Where is the boat located?
The boat is moored at 2542 Westlake Avenue in Seattle, Washington, Dock #4, right across from Gasworks Park. It also has a home down in Gig Harbor, Washington, just north of Point Richmond, at Big Pete's new moorage buoy on Colvos Passage.
I got an invitation. Is this for real?
Sure! There must be something worthwhile about you to warrant the invite.. Either you're cool, beautiful, an exhibitionist, younger than us, smart, loaded or any number of these!! Congratualtions, you have arrived, as these are some of the fine attributes that would constitiute an invite.
If it's a Duck Dodge invite, the boat will leave the dock at 6:40pm. We won't wait for our party to start. Sorry. Sometimes we tie up to the post-race raft up, sometimes we don't. If we do, plan on 11:00pm. If we don't well, it'll be sooner than that. We may drop people off at the dock, we may not. IT ALL DEPENDS.
Should I bring anything?
Yes. Sailing stinks if you are cold and or wet. Prepare for both, hope you don't need that stuff. It's also more fun if there is plenty of food and beverages. Legacy races, but is not a racing boat... kind of like a '78 Cadillac on the race course: Think :1.Big 2. Slow 3. Heavy. We are out to look good, not BE GOOD. Your extra pair of shorts/ slacks/ bikini/speedo will not significantly affect our performance. The general rule is to bring more beverages than you will drink, more food than you will eat. Also, wearing non-marking shoes, like tennies or sailing boots, is a necessary piece of equipment. Barefoot sailing is not a wise idea. Will I get invited again? Are there standing invitations? Can I bring friends?
Well, that's three questions. Let me practice my HTML skills here:- First, yes, you MAY be invited again. It depends on your skills on the first time on the boat. DID YOU DO ANYTHING? Were you cool/ beautiful/ smart/ funny/ young and beautiful/ loaded?
- Item Two -Yes, there are SOME standing invitations. If you make it to the Crew Page on this site, you have a standing invitation. If not, best to check.
- Item Three- Think of sailing on Legacy like a party at your friends' house. Would you bring someone without asking? No, you would ask first. We like to keep a certain percentageof XX chromosomes on the boat at all times.
Are there rules on the boat? Yes: there are approximately ten.
- The skipper is usually right, whatever what you may think.
- Bad drunks are no fun.
- Don't hit other people or other boats.
- Have Fun, don't break stuff on purpose.
- If you don't know, ASK. If you DO know, share your knowledge.
- Life is too short for bad beer.
- It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
- There are actually dangerous places to be on the boat.
- If we yell, it's because we love you or you are in danger.
- This rule is subject to change at any time.
I don't like being yelled at. Should I come?
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!! WE DON'T YELL!!!! Seriously. We'll yell only in certain situations: 1. we are in danger, (ie about to hit / rip/ break something) 2. we need something done NOW, (ie need beer, about to take the chute down) 3. it's really loud or 4. we're imitating pirates. An example of yelling: SUCK IT UP YOU FRIGGIN BABY!!!! PULL THAT ROPE!!!! PULLLLLL!!!!!!NOT THAT ONE!!!!!!! JEEZ....PULL YOU PANSY!
WE NEED TO TACK NOW!!!! NOW!!!! GET BEER!!!!! AAARRRGH!!! WHAT????
Hopefully, this clears things up for you.
I've never sailed before. Should I come?
Heh, heh, heh. Ahh.. virgins. Yes, we are frequently surrounded by virgins on the boat. Sailing CAN be scary if you don't know what's going on. Sometimes it's scarier when you DO know what's going on. Relax. Noone dies, noone's fallen in for a long time (ever) Chances are you are on Lake Union and you can swim. No, seriously... if you don't know, please ask. It makes us feel smart to answer your silly /ignorant/ ludicrous/ appallingly bad questions. However, if you want to overachieve, go to www.sailtips.com, or www.sailingcourse.com, and learn your stuff before you get out, or ask smarter questions, probably beyond our limited understanding of sailing.
Remember:
God does not subtract from a man's life the time spent sailing.
